Shahran Kasim started working with the Institute in 1993 as Special Assistant to Prof Dr. Omar H. Kasule based at the IIIT headquarters in Herndon, Virginia. In 1994 he worked as Assistant to Dr. Iqbal Unus under Malaysian Student Development Project, a joint-venture project between IIIT and Malaysian Government conducting leadership training for Malaysian students in the US, UK and Canada. He became the Secretary General of ABIM in 1999 and then Vice President for International Affairs in 2003. In 2006 he worked as Coordinator for Centre for the Studies of Modernity and Civil Society (CESMACS) headed by Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Nur Manuty and Prof. Dr. M. Nor Nawawi. He was also involved as a training consultant for Corporate Educational and Development Centre (CEDC) headed by Dato’ Idris Juzi. Since 2009 until today, he has been working with IIIT East and Southeast Asia serving in various capacities.

Shahran is also passionate and actively involved in humanitarian works. He was involved with Global Peace Mission and Malaysian Relief Agency in various projects in Malaysia and abroad. He was working with the Rohingya refugees for many years and worked closely with UNHCR office in Kuala Lumpur. He spent a whole month in Acheh immediately after the tsunami, spent 10 days in Iran working for Iraqi refugees and went to Padang, Indonesia as an advance team during the 2009 earthquake. Shahran also volunteered with Islamic Outreach ABIM in its various activities and projects.

Shahran obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc from Texas Tech University and took several post graduate courses at Department of Religion, Temple University, Philadelphia. While at Temple, he worked closely with Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Ayoub, both as a student and a special assistant. He is currently writing his Ph.D thesis at ISTAC-IIUM on “Critical Evaluation of Islamization of Knowledge: Special Focus on International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) Project  from 1980 to 2020 with a Case Study on International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)” under the supervision of Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin.
