Dr. Basma Abdelgafar is an avid reader and reflector on the Quran and Sunnah. She has a keen interest in research and teaching in public policy and governance in Islam as well as in Muslim history, thought, institutions and communities. Dr. Basma consults and provides training internationally. She has worked in the Canadian federal government, academia and the third sector. Her strong belief in the power of education has led her to contribute to the development of graduate studies in public policy in Qatar, South Africa, and Egypt. Her books have examined topics including morality, pluralism, governance, innovation, and global policies. She is the author of Public Policy Beyond Traditional Jurisprudence: A Maqasid Approach (2018) published by IIIT. She is currently Maqasid Institute’s Vice President.
